London has beat out the competition yet again to become the number one student city in 2019, retaining its top spot from last year.
The 2019 QS Best Student Cities Rankings are now live, with London leading the rankings, followed by Tokyo, Melbourne, Munich, and Berlin.
These top five cities differ slightly from the 2018 rankings with the new additions of Munich and Berlin replacing Montreal and Paris in their fourth and fifth spots respectively. The QS Best Student Cities Rankings list the best cities for studying abroad, based on a range of indicators including student mix, desirability, employer activity, affordability, student view, and how universities in each city performed in the QS World University Rankings.
Our 2019 International Student Survey found that 81% of respondents looked for a city that was safe and welcoming for international students, 62% looked at the city’s cost of living, and 61% looked for a city that had universities with high quality teaching.
Additionally, 59% looked for a city where they could work while studying, highlighting the importance of allowing international students to work on student visas.
Whichever factors and criteria sway their decision-making journey, international students use resources like the QS Best Student Cities Rankings to determine the best location for them.
As a result, if your university is situated in one of these best student cities then you should consider including this accolade in both marketing materials and communications with international students.
