Graduate Certificates and Graduate Diplomas are in the category of postgraduate studies which are designed as a prerequisite of Master degree. The Graduate Certificate which usually take 6 months, typically involves broadening individual skills already gained in an undergraduate program, or developing vocational knowledge and skills in a new professional area. Graduate certificates are designed in the main for specific vocational purposes.

They aim to:

  1. broaden skills and knowledge already gained in an undergraduate program; or
  2. provide vocational skills and knowledge in a new professional area.

They typically follow a Bachelor's Degree.

Graduate certificate courses may be a part of a continuum of studies in a specific subject area (an articulated course) offering you progression from a graduate certificate to a  Graduate Diploma or from a graduate diploma to a Master's Degree.

The Graduate Diploma take 12 months and either broadens individual skills obtained in an undergraduate program or develops vocational knowledge and skills in a new professional area.This qualification involves further specialisation within a systematic and coherent body of knowledge.

Graduate diplomas can take up to one-year full-time or four years part-time and are generally designed for specific vocational purposes.

They offer greater depth than graduate certificates while having similar aims:

  1. to broaden skills and knowledge already gained in an undergraduate program; or
  2. provide vocational skills and knowledge in a new professional area.

They typically follow a Bachelor's Degree.

Graduate diploma courses may be a part of a continuum of studies in a specific subject area (an articulated course), offering a student progression from a GRaduate Certificate to a graduate diploma or from a graduate diploma to a Master's by Coursework.
